The Fita do Bonfim (Ribbon of Bonfim)
which is also known as the fitinha do Bonfim (little ribbon…)
is a typical souvenir and amulet from Salvador, Bahia.




History

The original ribbon was created in 1809, having disappeared by the beginning of the 1950′s. Known as the ‘medida do Bonfom’ (measure of Bonfim), its name is owed to the fact that the exact measurements of 47 cm long, the length of the right arm of the statue of Jesus Christ, ‘Senhor do Bonfim’, situated on the high-altar of Bahia’s most famous church. The image was sculpted in Setúbal, in Portugal in the 23rd century. The ‘medida’ was made of silk, with the design and the name of the embroidered saint and complimented with golden or silver tint. It was worn around the neck like a necklace, where saints and medallions were hung, working as a type of currency: upon making good on a promise, the faithful carried a photo or a small sculpture of beeswax representing the part of the body which was cured with the help of the saint. As a souvenir, these ribbons would be acquired, symbolizing the church itself.
No one knows when the transition occurred from the old style ribbon to the new one (worn around the wrist), although the new ribbon was popularized by the street vendors of Salvador around the 1960′s, when it was also adopted by the Bahian hippies as part of their style of dressing.





Colors

Sold in diverse colors, the Fita do Senhor do Bonfim possesses a side that few actually know: each color symbolizes an Orixá (or deity of the Yoruba religion).




Dark green is for the deity Oxossi

light blue for Iemanjá

yellow for Oxum…


Whichever the color, the ribbon holds a symbolic, aesthetic and spiritual representation typical of the Afro-Brazilian culture. Practically speaking, the colors represent various positive words (such as blue for prosperity).

because my real home
where I live now

is also beautifull

My dream home have a luxurious garden
full of flowers and exotic plants and trees spending shadow




and of course a breathtaking view from the terraces...

but let's start the day in my dream house
in my wonderfull bedroom



waking up in the morning
after a refreshing night together with my DH
with my IB and with Abraham
I left my bed

going into the garden
overlooking the sea and doing
some yoga asanas...

the saudation of sun



a smell of jasmine and lavander is in the air
the birds are singing in the trees
it seems a happy day is beginning

I feel so much joy
and gratefullness for my place to live



I take some deep breathes
and I appriciate for this air
this air that we take everytime
and that gives us life

I look arround me
and I know how beautifull nature is
nature is just nature and have grace in itself

but I have here my paradise and take a walk






in the while the sun is standing higher on the sky
and I look to all this wonders that I realized
thank you universe!

and I think full of gratefullnes about this words from Abraham
which gives me goosebumps:

the terrace is inviting to take breakfast here...





fruitsalad and yogurt Orangejuice
and coffee... eggs and bread comes later for brunch




this is the time...
I love to have a good conversation with DH
we talk about many amazing things

later we go for short walk into the garden...
we are talking about our new project in Brazil
we have a shool for poor children in Rio de Janeiro

it is a mixture of Rudolf Steiner, Montessori and Abraham
we are eager about this and we plan to travell soon to Rio...

but than we stopp and my DH exclaim:

"Is this fountain not beautifull?"

this is the holy place of my creations
my travels and houses and countrys...

and the sea is blue blue blue
I love the color of blue
my preference color since I remember

I love the morning in my town
I love the coffee I take before going to the beach
dressed in a lightly beach dress from the Indian shop
and hawaian sandals

and this day I toked a picture from my home the entrance from the street
of my apartment block: all the balkonys with beach towels ha ha
it is South Europe!!! feeling... like bella Napoli






If... I am a millionaire I would like to live on the same place on earth
this means the same wonderfull Algarve at South Portugal

I would like to visit the same cafe and the same beaches
I would like to have the same friends
I would like to eat the same food: healthy and fresh food
I would like to use same dresses... just symple and casual
but only on the beach... shopping is also such good stuff!!!
shopping in Dubai or Milano or New York!!!

but of course... I would like to take this car to go with my DH to my cafe:
